Renown Chinese landscape painting seen at building of Asian Games Village

In the international area of the Hangzhou Asian Games Village, the abstract mountain-and-river painting in greenish-blue colour is unfolded on a building's outer wall. It is an abstract interpretation of Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, one of the most valuable surviving landscape paintings handed down from ancient China. What is the designer's original inspiration?

Inspired by Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, the abstract mountain-and-river painting is presented horizontally. With ingenuity re-creation, the designer has showcased a horizontal greenish-blue mountain-and-river scroll on the outer wall of a building, making it a landmark scene in the Village.

The overall building takes forms of mountains and rivers from Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains and texture and colours from Hangzhou celadon and Liangzhu ancient jade. Inspired by the Imperial City of the Southern Song Dynasty, the building adopts white metal bricks, incorporating the form of city walls in the design.

According to the designer, the architecture is an abstract interpretation of Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, a Chinese cultural treasure, showcasing China's cultural confidence to the international community by shaping the urban environment.
