Qianwang Temple is one of the famous scenic spots in West Lake. It was formerly a temple built in the second year of Yuanfeng of the Northern Song Dynasty to praise the loyalty of the five generations of King Qian of Wuyue State and was renamed Qianwang (King Qian) Temple after the Qing Dynasty. After several times of destruction and reconstruction, only the Bazi Wall of the temple survived. In the temple, an article written by Su Dongpo narrated their glorious deeds.
In 2001, the Hangzhou municipal government rebuilt the temple on the site of the former Qianwang Temple, restoring the statues of the five kings, the temple of merit, the main temple buildings, and other scenic features. The stone balustrades, the red walls, and the black tiles of the temple, set off by magnolia in spring, ginkgo in autumn, and plum blossoms in winter, are all picturesque scenery.
