"Yuhang Rolling Lantern (余杭滚灯)" originated from the Wengmei Area of Linping District. It has a history of more than 800 years. It is a folk song and dance performance with strong competitive characteristics, which is performed during festivals and lantern shows. The Rolling Lantern was already popular in the Southern Song Dynasty. For hundreds of years, people in Linping have regarded the Rolling Lantern as an auspicious object, a treasure for strengthening the body, and an entertainment device. They participated in the performance during the Lantern Festival or at temple fairs and the tradition has been passed down from generation to generation. "Yuhang Rolling Lantern" integrates dance, skills, and sports, and has the distinctive characteristics of diversity, comprehensiveness, and competition. With nine sets of twenty-seven performance movements, featuring unique artistic concepts and typical regional features, it demonstrates the outstanding creativity of folk dance and is of high research value for exploring ancient and modern folk dance.
