With a piece of paper and a pair of scissors, China's rapid development is shown on paper cutouts in the deft hands of paper-cutting artisans. As an intangible cultural heritage, papercutting has a deep relationship with Hangzhou.

Hangzhou papercutting involves folk artisans using scissors or knife tools to cut out various types of flowers, fruits, figures, animals, scenes and other designs on red paper, writing paper, satin paper or Chinese art paper. Papercutting is closely associated with festive blessings, weddings or funerals, and other folk events, and is a unique way for Chinese people to express their feelings, ideals and pursuits, as well as their best wishes, and a vehicle for such. In 2012, Hangzhou Papercutting was added to the list of representative projects of intangible cultural heritage in Zhejiang Province.
