On May 25, the Asian University Sports Federation officially announced that the inaugural Asian University Basketball League will take place this August in Hangzhou, China. Twelve top universities from across Asia will compete for the title.
The event, hosted by the Asian University Sports Federation, will be held from August 18 to 24 in Hangzhou. Five teams from the Chinese University Basketball Association will represent China: Tsinghua University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, and Taiyuan University of Technology. Korea and Japan will send three and two teams, respectively: Dongguk University, Yonsei University, Konkuk University; and Hakuoh University, Nippon Sport Science University. The remaining teams are The University of Hong Kong and National Chengchi University (Chinese Taipei).
According to the organizers, this year’s tournament will be a one-week championship event. From 2026 onwards, the league plans to adopt a six-month home-and-away season, culminating in a Final Four tournament at a neutral venue to determine the champion.
