Zhejiang Launches “Buy-and-Refunded” Departure Tax Refund with 14 Pilot Stores

China’s National Tax Service recently announced the nationwide expansion of the “buy-and-refunded” departure tax refund service, making shopping even more rewarding for international visitors.

Zhejiang is home to 219 departure tax refund stores, and a select group of these are now offering the convenient “buy-and-refunded” service. The first batch includes 14 pilot stores, allowing travelers to enjoy immediate tax refunds on their purchases.

The “buy-and-refunded” policy enables international visitors in designated regions to receive an instant cash refund equivalent to the tax amount when shopping at participating stores. After signing an agreement and securing a credit card pre-authorization, travelers can claim their refund in Chinese yuan on the spot. This initiative was initially piloted in cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Guangdong, Sichuan, Zhejiang, and Shenzhen, with smooth operations reported.
