On May 8, 2025, the highly anticipated 2025 Hangzhou Michelin Guide was officially released, spotlighting 77 exceptional restaurants. This year’s guide includes one restaurant newly promoted to Michelin Two Stars, 12 Michelin One Star establishments, 26 Bib Gourmand selections, and 38 restaurants recognized as Michelin Guide Recommended. The total number of listed restaurants reflects a robust 15% increase compared to last year.

“This marks the third year of the Michelin Guide in Hangzhou,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guide, during the launch event. “Over the past year, our inspectors have explored a wide range of dining venues, from humble local eateries to upscale restaurants. They’ve observed a steady rise in the scale and quality of Hangzhou’s homegrown culinary scene, alongside the vibrant energy of its dining market. The influx of new restaurants, significant investments, diverse styles, and consistently high standards are truly impressive. Hangzhou is emerging as a culinary trailblazer, blending global flavors with a distinct local identity.”

Poullennec also highlighted a groundbreaking achievement: “We are thrilled to introduce Hangzhou’s first-ever Michelin Green Star restaurant. This establishment excels in sustainable dining, seamlessly combining refined vegetarian cuisine with a commitment to healthy lifestyles and cultural heritage preservation. It offers both educational value and aesthetic delight, setting a new benchmark for the industry.”

Five Restaurants Earn Michelin One Star

The 2025 guide features 13 Michelin-starred restaurants, including one newly elevated to Two Stars. Among the 12 One Star recipients, five have either been newly promoted or are first-time honorees. A standout is Hangzhou’s inaugural Michelin Green Star recipient, Puzhu, which has crafted an exemplary model of sustainability. From sourcing local ingredients to promoting vegetarian culture and preserving traditional Chinese dietary philosophies, Puzhu integrates the ancient Chinese concept of harmony between humanity and nature into modern dining.
