Hangzhou Unveils First Batch of Child-Friendly Parks

On the eve of Children's Day, Hangzhou announced the "List of Child-Friendly Outdoor Spaces in Hangzhou (First Batch)", presenting children with more new places to play and explore. Simultaneously, the city released construction guidelines for child-friendly outdoor spaces, aiming to standardize and promote the development of such areas to enhance children's sense of fulfillment, happiness, and security.

In 2021-2022, Zhejiang Province and Hangzhou City proposed the initiative to build a child-friendly city, and issued the "Implementation Plan for the Construction of Child-Friendly Cities in Hangzhou". Establishing child-friendly construction guidelines in key areas such as outdoor spaces was identified as one of the important tasks.

The child-friendly outdoor spaces announced this time are tailored to local conditions and feature unique characteristics. Hangzhou Children's Park integrates ecology, leisure, entertainment, science, and education, with more than 20 large, medium, and small amusement facilities and non-powered installations. The Canal Asian Games Park is themed on forests and science, with engaging children's activity equipment. Liangzhu Sports Park uses colorful running tracks and landscape corridors to connect various courts, as well as facilities for skateboarding, rock climbing, sandpits, and plant mazes. Beitang River Children's Park combines education with entertainment, seamlessly integrating natural elements and interactive devices.

To guide and standardize the construction of child-friendly outdoor spaces, the Municipal Bureau of Gardens and Cultural Relics has organized the preparation and release of the "Guidelines". For example, in the development process, the focus is on creating environments suitable for children of different ages, based on their characteristics and needs. By considering the distribution of outdoor spaces, functional zoning, and natural features, the aim is to provide children with relatively safe public areas tailored to local conditions. The selection of materials for amusement facilities should prioritize safety, environmental friendliness, durability, hygiene, and easy maintenance.
