Summer is approaching, and the water lilies near the Three Pools Mirroring the Moon area of Hangzhou’s West Lake are blooming one after another. Among them, a few rare two-tone water lilies are hidden, making for an exceptionally beautiful sight.

On May 14, a reporter visited Xiaoyingzhou Island in the center of West Lake and captured this enchanting scene. On the lake surface of Xiaoyingzhou Island, the water lilies, the goddesses of the water, sway gracefully. The tranquil and misty atmosphere feels like stepping into a “Monet’s Garden.”

Red, yellow, and pale pink petals spread out dreamily in the clear water, looking even more captivating amidst the green leaves. Some of these lilies are quite rare, featuring a two-tone pattern with one half yellow and the other half red, reminiscent of a two-tone ice cream, hidden among the foliage and stunning all who see them.

It is known that this “dual-colored” water lily is the star variety “Wanvisa,” which has won multiple international gold awards for water lilies. “Wanvisa” is primarily a red water lily with golden speckles, but its colors are variable. You might see red and yellow today, and in a few days, it could be another combination, such as orange-red, orange-yellow, or apricot-yellow.

Typically, water lilies have a long blooming period, from April all the way until the end of November. Currently, the hardy water lilies are in bloom, and as the temperature continues to rise, a large wave of tropical water lilies is on the way. Generally, you can admire water lilies from June to September, so interested citizens can plan their visit accordingly.
