Lately, Hangzhou residents have been looking up at the trees more often. As winter approaches, the city is draped in a golden glow, with ginkgo trees entering their most stunning season of the year.
Ginkgo trees are what make Hangzhou's autumn and winter feel complete.
Qingyin Street: The Crown Jewel of Ginkgo-Lined Streets
Qingyin Street is a must-visit destination during Hangzhou’s autumn and winter. This one-kilometer-long street is flanked by rows of ginkgo trees, most of which have already turned a brilliant shade of yellow.
The ginkgo leaves at the tops of the trees have fully transformed into golden hues, while those closer to the trunk still retain a hint of green. Under the sunlight, Qingyin Street radiates a subtle, youthful charm.
The street is home to many long-time Hangzhou locals, giving it a warm, lived-in feel. The combination of everyday life and the seasonal beauty of the ginkgo trees turns this street into something that looks like it belongs in a painting.
To visit, take Metro Line 5 to Wan’an Bridge Station (Exit D), then walk about 700 meters to reach this iconic street, often regarded as one of the best places in Hangzhou to admire ginkgo trees.
A Hidden Ginkgo Grove That's Capturing Hearts
Recently, a lesser-known ginkgo grove in Hangzhou has quietly gained popularity online. Located at the Zhejiang National University Science Park on Jiuhuan Road in Shangcheng District, this hidden gem is now attracting attention.
The grove, with around 50 ginkgo trees, is tucked between two rows of buildings in the park. According to a security guard, these trees were planted when the park was first built and have been growing there for many years.
Under the sunlight, the golden ginkgo leaves shimmer like scattered fragments of light, blanketing the grove in a magical glow.
Getting there is easy: start at Wulin Square Metro Station, take Line 1 to Jiuhe Road Station, and walk about 1 kilometer to the grove. The convenient location might be one of the reasons why so many people are flocking to this spot.
