Anticipating the Grand Canal Museum: A New Landmark for Hangzhou

Recently, a significant cultural landmark project in the Dachengbei area of Hangzhou has made notable progress—the main tower of the China Grand Canal Museum (tentative name) has officially topped out.

Situated in the core area of Dachengbei, the museum's design draws inspiration from the Grand Canal waterway. It envisions a floating museum above the canal, illustrated through the Chinese calligraphy technique of "suspended brushstrokes." This design employs a figurative approach to convey the concept of having mountains behind and water in front, reflecting the essence of the canal in the museum's architecture.

This project is envisioned as a cultural complex that integrates innovation, experiential learning, and cultural tourism. It aims to become a "new city landmark, a new cultural platform, and a new paradise for residents," incorporating various functions such as art and culture, industrial offices, cultural experiences, and exhibition planning.

The project is expected to be substantially completed by the end of 2025. At that time, Hangzhou will welcome a new experiential museum and cultural tourism complex that seamlessly blends "learning through travel" with "travel for enjoyment."
