As the leader of five Zen mountains, the stone carvings at Peak Flying Afar are important works of stone cave art in southern China. These Buddha statues carved on limestone span from the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period to the Ming Dynasty. The carvings from the Song Dynasty include group carvings of eminent monks on their pilgrimage, the Maitreya Bodhisattva with a big belly, and a group of eighteen Arhats. All of them are vivid and detailed.
