【The Ancestral Hall of Yan Ziling】

An ancestral hall for the Yan family had already been built in the Tang Dynasty in Yan Ziling’s Angling Terrace. After Fan Zhongyan was relegated to Muzhou (now Chun’an, Hangzhou), he restored the Ancestral Hall of Yan Ziling and erected a monument to commemorate Yan Ziling. Meanwhile, he wrote the eternal masterpiece "Mr. Yan’s Ancestral Hall", and praised Yan Ziling with the verses that became well known in China, which literally means "The cloud- and mist-shrouded high mountains are lush green; the rivers are vast and majestic; Mr. Yan, your exemplary conduct and nobility of character are higher than the mountains and longer than the Long River (last forever)."
