The mouth of the jug is shaped like a flower with six petals. It features round edges, a slender neck, sloping shoulders, a large belly and a six-sided petal-shaped ring foot. The six sides of the jug correspond to the mouth and the ring foot, and all blend into a harmonious whole. On the shoulders are symmetrical embossed rings. It has a thick black-gray body, fine texture and thick pink-blue glaze. The foot has no glaze because it was glazed using the method of Dianshao (glazing the bisqueware with the ring foot placed on a pad), showing a purple-black foot. The overall shape is smooth and well-proportioned, with a jade-like appearance. It is among the top-grade porcelain from the official kiln of the Southern Song Dynasty.
