The display hall was built to protect the Southern Song Dynasty Imperial Street unearthed in Yan’guan Lane. During the Southern Song Dynasty, the city of Lin'an was centered on the Imperial Street, which ran from north to south. Along the imperial road from the Imperial City to Chaotian Gate (today's Drum Tower), there were Taimiao (imperial ancestral temple), three departments and six ministries, the Privy Council, and other important institutions. On the north side, there were residential and commercial areas, showing a picture of a prosperous dynasty, with people coming in from all directions and a thriving business.
After entering the museum, visitors can visit the relics of the Imperial Street in the early Southern Song Dynasty, such as the Baima (White Horse) Temple in the Southern Song Dynasty, the brick-paved road in the middle Southern Song Dynasty, and the northern walls of the three departments and six ministries of the Southern Song Dynasty, and can also enjoy the architectural components unearthed in Yan’guan Lane, such as eave tiles and Xianggao bricks (a typical kind of bricks used in the Song Dynasty), while reminiscing about the then prosperity of the ancient capital.
