Sitting west to east and covering an area of about 1500 m2, the Memorial Hall is a quadrangle courtyard of Jiangnan style. The main building, with a land area of 771.36 m2, is an ancient two-storey wooden residence constructed in the late Qing Dynasty, with the first floor for visitors, and the second floor for exhibition and reception. Premier Zhou visited Meijiawu Village five times from 1957 to 1963 and took Meijiawu Village as a contact place for guiding the country’s rural work. It was once used as a reception room after the founding of the PRC, and then in 1993, to better memorialize Premier Zhou and encourage the modernization of the village, it was converted to the Memorial Hall of Premier Zhou, with all funds raised by Meijiawu Village collective. In 2003, the tea culture village of Meijiawu was comprehensively renovated as a part of the West Lake comprehensive protection project. The Memorial Hall of Premier Zhou, as the highlight of Meijiawu village, has been maintained and renovated thoroughly, to focus on the theme of Premier Zhou’s inspection in Meijiawu and reception of foreign guests. With the help of the West Lake Administrative Committee, the Memorial Hall was further upgraded in environment and display from 2015 to 2016, and reopened on June 30, 2016 together with the launch of the Education of Premier Zhou’s Clean Government Culture. The upgrade and renovation have further enriched the exhibition content, optimized the presentation form, and completed hardware facilities and peripheral environment, all this helps promote integrity in society with the incorruptible deeds of this great revolutionary man as the basic context and present the current landscape with the combined theme of Longjing tea culture, new countryside construction and patriotism.
