Tonglu Jiangnan Ancient Village Scenic Area boasts a rich history that can be traced back to the waning years of the Western Han Dynasty. Its roots deepen during the Three Kingdoms era under the reign of Wu, and it flourishes further through the Southern Song Dynasty, reaching its zenith in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. This locale stands as the embodiment of millennia of agrarian culture, encompassing both tangible heritage such as ancient edifices, bridges, temples, ancestral halls, water networks, and age-old trees, as well as intangible heritage spanning customs, traditional festivities, folk beliefs, and legendary craftsmanship. In 2006, it attained the status of a provincial-level preservation zone for its historical and cultural significance. Subsequently, in 2007, it was honored as China's third batch of historically and culturally acclaimed villages, a distinction bestowed by the Shen'ao Village Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the Ministry of Culture. Anchored in its historical and cultural legacy and bolstered by its rustic landscapes, Jiangnan Town in Tonglu County strategically harnessed its ensemble of ancient architecture. This strategic approach leveraged its recognition as a nationally designated historical and cultural village, a quintessential town exuding local charm, a pivotal village, and a boutique destination. Adhering to the "one village, one product" principle, the five villages were meticulously crafted into distinct themes: "Yili Shen'ao," "Clear Lotus Huanxi," "Filial Dipu," "Harmony Xufan," and "Mountain and Water Qingyuan."Aligning with the principle of "harmonious unity," these five villages underwent cohesive development, culminating in an integrated rural tourism showcase area. Here, visitors can partake in countryside panoramas, delve into historical narratives, immerse themselves in traditional culture, and engage in firsthand experiences of folk traditions.
