Tongjun Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture has been selected as one of China's national intangible cultural heritage projects. It is centered around Tonglu County and has extended to become a traditional medicine culture known nationally. The culture includes legends of Tongjun Old Man, a renowned figure in traditional Chinese medicine, as well as the traditional practices of collecting and cultivating herbs, adhering to ancient methods of preparing traditional Chinese medicine, and the medical culture of Tongjun Clinic, which embodies the spirit of "treating the world and seeking truth for the benefit of humanity." It also involves the "Chinese Traditional Medicine Festival" and other Tongjun worshipping activities. This culture has a long history, deep cultural foundation, and broad popular support. Tongjun is said to have lived during the time of the Yellow Emperor. He is considered the pioneer of traditional Chinese medicine, credited with collecting various herbs, determining their properties, and formulating medications. Tonglu has a rich history of traditional medicine, as reflected in historical records such as the "Tonglu County Chronicles" from the 22nd year of the Kangxi era and the 2nd year of the Guangxu era, which covered 50 and 67 species of herbal medicines, respectively. The local herbal resources include over 840 species, with some like Cornus officinalis, Raspberry, Kudzu Root, and Motherwort being well-known for their abundance and quality. Tongjun Tang Pharmacy was established in 1384 during the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1384), later evolving into Tongjun Traditional Chinese Medicine Co., Ltd. In the year 1960, it was renamed "Tonglu County Zhongxi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd." In 2006, based on the original company, the Hangzhou Tongjuntang Medicine and Medicinal Materials Co., Ltd. was established under the trade name "Tongjuntang." Upholding the spirit of "relieving the suffering of the world" attributed to Tongjun, the company has compiled a significant collection of individual prescriptions, test prescriptions, and authored the book "Selected Experiences of Famous Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners in Tonglu" during decades of medical practice.
