Zhejiang Traditional Chinese Medicine Museum has collected countless treasures related to traditional Chinese medicine, some of which are donated by alumni and museums in other provinces, and some of which are specimens collected by school teachers and students during their field trips. Thanks to the concerted efforts, the Museum now boasts such a large scale of collections. Among the various exhibition halls at the Museum, the Chinese Medicines Herbarium is the most distinctive, which stores a piece of yellow crystal the size of a pomelo donated by Academician Li Dapeng. This is a very rare and presumably invaluable mineral as it is a combination of orpiment and realgar which are normally separated. There is also a flying squirrel specimen in the animal specimen exhibition area whose feces are themselves the famous Chinese medicine material named Wulingzhi. The museum preserves a total of 1,800 kinds of precious Chinese medicine materials, including more than 60 kinds of rare ones. In addition, many ancient folk prescriptions of traditional Chinese medicine were also collected to showcase the production process of traditional Chinese medicine and the development history of Zhejiang traditional Chinese medicine. Zhejiang Traditional Chinese Medicine Museum is open to the public free of charge and serves as a base for traditional Chinese medicine education.
