Chun'an derives its name from its simplicity and tranquility. With a history spanning 1,800 years, it has earned the reputation of being the "land of beautiful mountains, picturesque waters, and renowned culture." During the Tang and Song Dynasties, Chun'an held the position of the cultural center of Xin'an, and it was where Chen Shuozhen, a heroic figure in a peasant uprising during the Tang Dynasty, and Fang La, a leader of a peasant uprising during the Northern Song Dynasty, were born and initiated their uprisings. Chun'an absorbed the influences of Wuyue culture and integrated with Huizhou culture, resulting in a unique humanistic essence that has preserved customs like the Mu Opera and temple fairs. Sanjiao Xi (Triangle Drama) has been recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage, and the presence of an underwater ancient city adds to Chun'an's rarity in the world. The splendid culture and breathtaking scenery of Chun'an have attracted renowned figures throughout history, including Li Bai, Fan Zhongyan, Zhu Xi, and Guo Moruo. Shang Lu, one of the "Three Prime Ministers" during the Ming Dynasty, hailed from Chun'an, while Hai Rui, a famous upright official during the Qing Dynasty, served as the county magistrate of Chun'an for four years. Chun'an boasts a glorious revolutionary tradition and a rich red culture, as it stood as the sole revolutionary base area in Hangzhou. In recent years, Chun'an has embraced the spirit of the new era, characterized by "greeting the world with water and pursuing excellence through hard work." This embodies the confidence and aspirations of the people of Chun'an in achieving prosperity through their lake and transforming it into an exceptional city.
