Located on the coastal plain, Hangzhou can be described as a bicycle-friendly city. Major streets have dedicated bicycle lanes throughout the city, and bicycle infrastructure is well equipped to facilitate moving around on two wheels.

Years ago, one was required to get a transportation smart card with an ID card (or a passport) and a deposit of 200 yuan before renting a public bicycle. Now, QR codes for rental services are available. Users can scan the code on a bicycle and rent it online, which can be done via the "Dingda Chuxing" (叮嗒出行) app and the mini program at WeChat and Alipay.
