The Shengli River Food Street

If you come to Hangzhou and ask the locals which is the best place in Hangzhou for a late-night snack, nine times out of ten, they will answer with Shengli River Food Street. In Shengli River Food Street, most of the restaurants have their own open-air booths, which resemble Chinese classical pavilions with strings of red lanterns added. The food street is just like an ancient street coming from the olden times.

The Shengli River Food Street was officially opened to the public in 2009 and, after years of development, it has become the most popular among Hangzhou's food streets. Visitors to Hangzhou usually come to Xiawan Lane on the banks of the Shengli River, a branch of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, to enjoy its elaborate dishes and snacks. Scores of restaurants dot the 460-meter-long street. The food street is a gathering place for all kinds of cuisines, including Hangzhou cuisine, local farm-flavored dishes, Sichuan cuisine... and a wide variety of foods, such as stir-fry, hot pot, BBQ, seafood... Near the food street, there are also scenic areas to visit and help digest, such as Fuyi Granary, Imperial Dock, and Dadou Road Historic Block.
