Introduction to Hangzhou Transportation

Getting around Hangzhou is as easygoing as the city itself, and Hangzhou's well-developed transportation system makes touring the city a pleasure.

Hangzhou has a transportation system that includes land, water, and air transportation. Hangzhou, the hub of the Zhejiang expressway network, is not only one of the most important transport hubs in East China, but also connects Shanghai with South China.

Water Transportation

The location of Hangzhou has played a major role in the excellent development of its water transport. Hangzhou is located in East China, in the northern part of Zhejiang Province, on the lower reaches of the Qiantang River and the southern end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and borders the sea to the southeast. These water resources have boosted the development of Hangzhou's water transportation system.

Land Transportation

In terms of high-speed rail, Hangzhou has become one of the important hubs of China's high-speed rail network, which connects it with surrounding cities such as Shanghai, Nanjing, and Ningbo. Among them, the Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed railway has become one of the busiest high-speed rail lines in China. With high speed and convenience, travel between the two cities has become more convenient. In terms of expressways, Hangzhou has many major expressways running through it, forming an all-round radioactive high-speed network.

Air Transportation

The busyness of Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport is well known. It is an important trunk-line airport in China, one of the top ten international airports in terms of passenger flow in China, a first-class airport open to the outside world, and an alternate airport for international flights. It is the first air portal in Zhejiang Province. The airport is an important window for a city to benchmark itself against international standards, and it also allows Hangzhou to further expand and enhance Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport.
