Heavenly Wind over Wu Hill

Situated in downtown Hangzhou, Heavenly Wind over Wu Hill is one of the New Ten Scenes of West Lake. It commands a panoramic view of both the bustling Hefang Street and downtown Hangzhou as well as the serene West Lake.

Wu Hill is famous for five things: ancient trees and clear springs, grotesque rocks and caves, temples and shrines, engaging customs, and rich historical relics. Moreover, at the northern foot of the hill is China’s first traditional medicine museum inside the more-than-100-year-old Hu Qing Yu Tang Pharmacy, also renowned for its very impressive Qing-style architecture.

More than 70 cliff inscriptions from different dynasties can be found on Wushan Hill, with the oldest dating back to the Tang Dynasty. There are also a large number of peculiar-shaped rocks on Wushan Hill, among which, the "Wushan Twelve Peaks" along the hill road from Ziyang Hill to Yunju Hill are the most amazing. Because of their shape, the twelve rocks have been named Pen Holder, Incense Burner, Chessboard, Elephant Trunk, Jade Bamboo Shoot, Resting Turtle, Coiled Dragon, Dancing Crane, Singing Phoenix, Crouching Tiger, Sword Spring, Sleeping Ox, etc. Looking around, you'll feel that these are quite ethereal and magical. From another angle, however, the lying rocks assume different shapes, dragon, tiger, rabbit, monkey, and other animals of the twelve zodiacs. Hence, these rocks were called "twelve zodiac rocks". Visitors to the site cannot help stopping to admire them and discover the fortune that belongs to them.
