Su Dongpo, also known as Su Shi, was a famous poet, calligrapher, and statesmen of the Song Dynasty (960–1279). He served twice as the governor of Hangzhou and during his second term, he organized a large-scale dredging of West Lake. There are two famous things in Hangzhou named after him: Su Causeway and Dongpo Pork.
Su Dongpo Memorial Hall consists of a courtyard, exhibition halls, and Dongpo Shiyuan. The main building of the memorial hall is a two-floor Qing-style pavilion with dovetail eaves and upturned roof corners. White walls and red windows are its characteristics. In front of the building stands a three-meter-tall statue of Su Dongpo carved out of granite. The first floor of the building displays Su's family tree, chronological table, and biographical note, highlighting the contributions he made in his two terms as the governor of Hangzhou and his literary achievements during the period. On the second floor, you can appreciate poems written by Su Dongpo as well as paintings and calligraphy.
