Kuahuqiao (Cross-the-Lake Bridge) Culture was discovered near Kuahuqiao Bridge in 1990, after which it was then named. Kuahuqiao Culture goes back some 8,000 years to the Neolithic Age and is known as the hearth of the earliest prehistoric civilization in China.
Kuahuqiao Relics Museum is situated in the beautiful Xianghu Lake Scenic Area and was open to the public on 28 September 2009. It’s a Kuahuqiao culture-themed museum displaying the archeological finds in the Kuahuaqiao Historical site and the research achievements. The museum covers an area of about 55,333 square meters with a building area of 6,800 square meters. Mainly consisting of an exhibition hall and a preservation zone, the museum is shaped like a boat sailing to the future, which was inspired by the first canoe ever built in human history unearthed in Kuahuqiao Historical Site.
