Leifeng Pagoda in Evening Glow, one of the Ten Poetically Named Scenic Places of the West Lake in the Southern Song Dynasty, is located at and around Xizhao Hill on the south shore of the lake, with an area of about 13.19 ha. It is characterized by the silhouette of a historic pagoda on top of a peak at dusk.

The place is known all over China as the setting for the folk story "The White Snake", because of which the Leifeng Pagoda is considered a traditional symbol of steadfast love. It has two features for appreciating the landscape: 1) The pagoda, which stands on top of a hill to the southwest of the lake, looks best at dusk, and its reflection in the lake looks best at dusk when people view them against the sunlight in the lake, especially on the Long Bridge. 2) The wooden eaves of the pagoda were destroyed during a war in the Ming Dynasty and only the solid brick body remained to form a contrast between decrepitude and fresh elegance with Baochu Pagoda on Precious Stone Hill to the northeast of the lake. This type of contrast has been a basic feature in the spatial outline of the landscape of the West Lake since the Qing Dynasty.
