Dadou Road Historic Block stretches from Daguan Road (大关路) to Jiangzhang Bridge (江涨桥) along the Grand Canal. It covers an area of 95,000 square meters. With its history dating back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD), it is one of the few ancient blocks which still narrates the history of old Hangzhou. For its role as the trade center of old Hangzhou, there left a large number of late Qing- and early Ming-style constructions. The block features the flagstone walkways, tall phoenix trees on the roadside, red lanterns hung along the bank, and residents washing their clothes by the river. Taking a stroll along the block is a best way to learn about old Hangzhou and its people.
