Taoguang Temple

Taoguang Temple is the best place on Lingyin Mountain to view the Qiantang River tidal bore. It has been known since ancient times as a place of pilgrimage and a vantage point for views of the mountains and Qiantang River tidal bore. From the Guanhai Pavilion in the temple, one can enjoy panoramic views of the West Lake and the Qiantang River.

The whole temple is tucked away among mountains and forests, with bamboo groves rustling in the breeze and spring water gurgling. It's just like a fairyland. The temple features white-walled, stone-tiled temple gates, exposed black brickwork, and maroon doors and windows, which is very special compared with traditional temples where yellow is the dominant color. It can be said that Taoguang Temple is a beautiful garden in the Jiangnan Region.

The landscape changes as you follow the mountain path among the bamboo groves to Taoguang Temple and climb the steps. The ingenious garden-style architecture unfolds before your eyes. Ascending to the Guanhai Pavilion, you can view the layered cornices close by and the mountains mirrored in the lake in the distance.
