Hangzhou people are justifiably proud of their West Lake Longjing Tea, considered one of the finest types of green tea in China, known for its emerald color, sparrow tongue-shaped leaves, bittersweet taste, and rich aroma. Its name, "Longjing", or "Dragon Well", was originally the name of a wellspring located in a village southwest of West Lake.
West Lake Longjing Tea has a long historical standing. As early as 1,200 years ago, the Sage of Tea, Lu Yu in the Tang Dynasty, wrote the famous "Classic of Tea", in which West Lake Longjing Tea was recorded. In addition, Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty once listed West Lake Longjing Tea as a tribute.
Green tea contains large amounts of nutrients such as vitamin C and amino acids, making it a very healthy drink. Chinese people like to drink tea, and many of them drink green tea. West Lake Longjing Tea is one of the representative green tea varieties. It was originally produced in Longjing Village, located in the west of the West Lake Scenic Area, hence the name. Currently, Shifeng, Longjing, Yunqi, Hupao and Meijiawu are the five famous production areas. Among them, Shifeng Longjing Tea is the most delicious.
