Linping District has a long historical standing and a galaxy of talents. The name of Linping has already been recorded in the annals of history in the Eastern Han Dynasty, and it developed into a market in the Jin Dynasty. Since the Sui and Tang dynasties, it has been a must-pass for ships to go east along the Shangtang River out of Hangzhou and the largest port.
