Heshang Dragon Lantern Pageant (河上龙灯胜会) is a large-scale folk performance held during the Lantern Festival in Heshang Town, Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou City. Its origin can be traced back to the legends and customs that prevailed in the Yellow River Basin in the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD), settled and took root in the south with the migration of the people. During the Shaoxing period of the Southern Song Dynasty (1131-1162 AD), Guangfu Temple in Heshang was rebuilt and the villagers celebrated the event by performing the dragon lantern dance, which gradually evolved into Heshang Dragon Lantern Pageant mainly by the current Xitou Village, Zhujia Village, and Weimin Village. The Heshang Dragon Lantern Pageant is large in scale and rich in content and well-loved by people in the neighborhood.
