01 Gathering Tradition, Joy from Heaven's Sauce
This winter, the historical and cultural district of Xiaohe has seen the return of the Sauce Yard. Nestled by the canal, this century-old Sauce Yard showcases products from various renowned old brands and the craftsmanship of many intangible cultural heritage artisans, bringing together a variety of regional flavors to revive the local life and vibrancy of Xiaohe Street.
02 New Sauce Yard, National Trend
A city has countless facets waiting to be discovered. Exploring a city's unique cultural imprints on foot is the fresh and upward lifestyle of contemporary young people. Gu Yu has created a model that combines the Sauce Yard with wine, tea, dining, and educational activities, capturing the essence of tradition while staying trendy. This aims to attract young people to a new Chinese-style Sauce Yard that is aesthetically appealing, warm, and culturally rich, allowing them to savor the taste of passing time.
03 A Fragrance of Sauce
The traditional sauce products crafted in the Sauce Yard, whether it's soy sauce, vinegar, wine, pickled vegetables, bean paste, chili sauce, or marinated duck and pork, each has its own story. Take, for example, a bottle of soy sauce, which undergoes eight major steps including ingredient selection, soaking and steaming beans, mixing with yeast, fermentation, aging in vats, exposure to sun and dew, and oil pressing. These time-honored old brands, some with over a hundred years of history and others spanning several hundred years, uphold ancient brewing techniques passed down through generations with unwavering dedication and craftsmanship.
04 Chinese Traditional Tavern
Today's Sauce Yard also functions as a traditional Chinese-style tavern. In the quaint and stylish establishment, traditional Huangjiu and Hongqu rice wine are served alongside traditional appetizers such as marinated pork, marinated duck tongues, and duck necks. Additionally, there's osmanthus-scented Longjing tea paired with Jiangnan-style intangible cultural heritage snacks, as well as Hangzhou mixed noodles, soy-sauce-infused rice, and other nostalgic Jiangnan specialties. This allows young people to blend tradition with modernity in the old Jiangnan streets and lanes, creating a new trend.
