Cycling Towards a Brighter Future: Qiantang River

The earliest record of the Qiantang River is found in "the Classic of Mountains and Rivers (山海经)". The river passed by the Qiantang County (the present Hangzhou) in ancient times, hence the name, Qiantang River. It is one of the main cradles of Wuyue Culture. Accompanied by the breeze brought by the flowing river, cycling on the banks of Qiantang River is lightsome.


Recommended Routes: 


Route one: 


Jiangdong Bridge (江东大桥) — Xiasha Bridge (下沙大桥) — Jiubao Bridge (九堡大桥)


The route goes westwards from Jiangdong Bridge. It's not as lively and prosperous as in downtown areas, but it features a unique view. The road condition is good. While cycling in the evening, you can hear the sound of the wind blowing by your ears.


Route Two: 


The First Qianjiang Bridge (钱江一桥) — Wentao Road (闻涛路) — The Fourth Qianjiang Bridge (钱江四桥)


The route is extremely suitable for night cycling. The road condition is good, suitable for all kinds of bicycles, mountain bicycle, road bicycle, folded bicycle, public bicycle, etc. Along the route, you'll see many people jogging, working out, running, fishing and dating. The total length of the route is about 9.06 kilometers and the main attractions include Fuxing Bridge (复兴大桥) and Qiantang River.

Qiantang River 钱塘江 


Qiantang River, 522.22 kilometers in length, is the longest river in Zhejiang Province and is world-renowned for its spectacular Qiantang River Tidal Bore. The river passes by many places, after which each section is named: the Hangzhou section is named Qiantang River (Qiantang is the old name of Hangzhou in ancient times), Chun'an section called Xin’an River and Fuchun section Fuchun River.

Pagoda of Six Harmonies 六和塔 


The Pagoda of Six Harmonies stands on Yuelun Hill (月轮山) overlooking Qiantang River(钱塘江). The pagoda is built in 970 A. D. when Hangzhou was the capital of the Southern Song Dynasty. It’s one of the most prominent wood-and-brick structures of ancient China and also the perfect place to enjoy the superb view of Qiantang River and the grandeur Qiantang River Bridge.

Qianjiang (Qiantang River) Tidal Bore Watching Resort 钱江观潮城


Qianjiang Tidal Bore Watching Resort is a place built for residents and tourists alike to view the splendid tidal bore of Qiantang River – the largest of its kind in the world. Qiantang River Bridge 钱塘江大桥 


Qiantang River Bridge, a national monument, is located to the south of West Lake, over the Qiantang River (钱塘江), and near Pagoda of Six Harmonies. On Pagoda of Six Harmonies, one can get a good view of the double-decked Qiantang River Bridge.

White Pagoda Park 白塔公园 


Built in the Five Dynasties, it was the landmark for ship navigation and the site of confluence of the canal and the Qiantang River. During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, Baita region became an extremely prosperous harbor. What’s more, it was the starting station of Jiangshu Railway in the period of the Republic of China era.

Nine Creeks and Eighteen Gullies 九溪十八涧 


As one of "New Top Ten Scenes of West Lake", “Nine Creeks and Eighteen Gullies” is located among the wooded hills southwest of West Lake. For its serene rustic charms, “Nine Creeks and Eighteen Gullies” has long been a top tourist lure.
