Located at the foot of the famous Tianshangang Mountain, the birthplace of the Three Kingdoms culture, in the easternmost part of Jiangnan Town, Tonglu County, Huangxi village is surrounded by rivers on three sides and mountains on one side, hence the name. The poem “Out of the doors is the beautiful peak of Tianzi and through the windows are the stunning views of two crystal clear streams” perfectly describes the geographical features of the village.
It is one of the ancient villages in the provincial historical and cultural protection zone and has many old buildings such as the famous Ailian Hall, Shangzhi Hall, Anlan Bridge and Bao’an Bridge. There are many Hui-style houses, old bridges and 4-storey villas. At the entrance of the village stands a thousand-year-old ginkgo tree. Known as the "couple tree," it is an iconic sight of the village. The village is also home to descendants of Zhou Dunyi, who wrote the famous essay “On the Love of the Lotus.”
