Zhangming Music Library

The Zhang Ming Music Library is quietly housed inside the small building of Shengtangju in the Sixth Park of West Lake. People who don't know may mistakenly think that it is just an ordinary teahouse, but it is a shining point to promote Western classical music culture in Hangzhou.

This wooden two-story pavilion is decorated like a cafe. A dark grand piano and a wall decorated with classical music CD boxes opposite the entrance make people feel it is an extraordinary place. In the right hall, more than 5,000 classical CDs and more than 3,000 music and art books are enough to make everyone who likes Western classical music delighted. It can be said that all the precious life-time collection of Zhang Ming is exhibited here.

Here, you can pick a CD you like at will, then pick a book, sit next to the window, sip coffee or tea, and indulge yourself in your own music world. Each table is equipped with a perfect CD player. In such an atmosphere mixed with nature, music and text, a hot summer day passes by in a leisurely manner.

As the first open music library in China, its most attractive point is undoubtedly the music lectures by Zhang Ming. Lectures are usually held every Saturday night in a small area of 30 or 40 square meters on the second floor of the small building. Here, you will also find many CDs that are hard to find in the market. Whether you live in Hangzhou or come to Hangzhou for a visit, as long as you prefer to live your life with elegance, this is a place not to be missed.
