Long Bridge Park

Long Bridge Park is located at the southeast corner of West Lake, next to the Long Bridge on Nanshan Road. The park stretches along the lake and has a delicate layout.

Long Bridge is one of the three love bridges in the West Lake. It is said that the famous “18 Miles of Send-off” in the Chinese tragic love story Butterfly Lovers happened on this bridge. Liang Shanbo walked back and forth on this bridge with his classmate Zhu Yingtai, who then disguised herself as a man, for 18 miles to see her off. Zhu made 18 attempts by comparing two of them to animals in love to hint to Liang that she was actually a woman and had fallen in love with him but Liang did not catch her hints. It is the so-called “the journey is long but the bridge is short.” Another saying goes that in South Song Dynasty, Wang Xuanjiao was in love with Tao Shi’er but their relationship was disapproved by the step-mother of Tao Shi’er. The two jumped to the lotus pond from the Long Bridge and died for love. Hence, the Long Bridge being not long, the Broken Bridge being not broken, and the Solitary Hill being not solitary are considered the “Three Wonders of the West Lake”.
