Recently, 11 departments in Zhejiang including the Provincial Department of Commerce unveiled the first group of Zhejiang Provincial High-Quality Pedestrian Streets. Ten Pedestrian Streets including Hangzhou’s Hubin Pedestrian Street, Qinghefang Pedestrian Street and China Silk Town were inscribed on the list.
If you are staying in Hangzhou for the Chinese New Year, you might as well go shopping and eating in these pedestrian streets.
What’s so special about these three Pedestrian Streets? Let’s find out …
Hubin Pedestrian Street
杭州湖滨步行街
Hubin Pedestrian Street is on the banks of the beautiful West Lake with a length of over 2000 meters and an area of 410,000 square meters.
Hubin Pedestrian Street is in the shape of the Chinese character “千”, bordering Qingchun Road on the north, Jie Bai Xin Yuan Hua Department Store on the south, Yan’an Road on the east and Hubin Road on the west. The pedestrian street is elegant and refreshing. Both citizens and tourists can fully experience and personally feel the unique charm of the integration of nature and culture, and history and reality.
Qinghefang Pedestrian Street
杭州清河坊步行街
Qinghefang Pedestrian Street is located at the northern foot of Wushan Hill (吴山) in Shangcheng District, Hangzhou. It borders Xihu Avenue on the north, the Drum Tower on the south, Wushan Square on the west and Zhonghe Middle Road on the east. It is composed of two main streets, Hefang Street (河坊街) and the Southern Song Imperial Street (南宋御街).
Qinghefang has been Hangzhou’s prosperous area since ancient times. It was even the political and cultural center and the gathering place of businesses in Hangzhou in the Southern Song Dynasty. It has been over 20 years since the start of its protective renovation in 1999. Cultural and historical protection architecture stands in great number and time-honored intangible cultural heritage enterprises gather here. It now has become the epitome of Hangzhou’s modern history.
China Silk Town Pedestrian Street
杭州中国丝绸城步行街
China Silk Town High-Quality Pedestrian Street is located in the center of Hangzhou, about 1.6 kilometers away from the beautiful West Lake Scenic Area, a world cultural landscape heritage. It is the Pearl of the Orient in the Wulin Core Business District.
Currently, the street is planned to have “one center, two streets and multiple areas” as the main layout and the plan is to be implemented in phases. During the first phase, efforts will be put in building “national trend and silk charm, digital street”; during the second phase, many areas including “the national silk fashion publishing center, the silk commerce center, the silk research and development center, the international silk union, the silk road dream seeking area” will be built to make an all-out effort to build an international silk brand center.
