The new "Hometowns of Traditional Chinese Opera of Zhejiang" are released. Recently, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism has finalized the lists of “the second group of Hometowns of Traditional Chinese Opera of Zhejiang (County-level)” and “the second group of Hometowns of Traditional Chinese Opera of Zhejiang (town-level, village-level)”. Hangzhou has three places that made the list.
Chun’an County · Muju Opera
淳安县·睦剧
Chun’an Muju Opera is developed from folk literature, folk storytelling and singing, and folk singing and dancing. It is a blossom cultivated by the regional culture of Chun’an County. Most of its operas originate from rural daily life, such as depicting conflicts between husband and wife, funny things between sisters-in-law and farm work.
Currently, there are ten Muju Opera troupes and over 30 performing teams in the county.
The county has also built Muju Opera Theme Demonstration Hall, Muju Opera Square and Muju Opera Corner.
Pingyao Town · Yueju Opera
瓶窑镇 · 越剧
In recent years, Pingyao Town attaches great importance to the inheritance and development of Chinese traditional opera culture. By integrating the rich historical and cultural resources, and adding the connotations and foundation of Liangzhu Culture, it has created a large group of “down-to-earth and intelligent ” operas and Quyi* works.
*Quyi is a Chinese folk art form, including ballad singing, storytelling, comic dialogues, clapper talks, cross talks, etc.
The amateur performers of Yueju Opera cultivated by Pingyao Town have won the first prize in “Liqun Cup” National Amateur Performer Match Adult Group, and the third prizes in the 1st and 2nd Hangzhou Individual-Owned Troupe Joint Performance, etc.
Zhenyuan Village · Wuju Opera
镇源村 · 婺剧
Zhenyuan Village (镇源村) is the original place of Wuju Opera (婺剧) of Datong Town (大同镇). The opera culture in the place is profound and has distinctive characteristics, and is passed down from generation to generation. “A family is an opera troupe” is how people describe Zhenyuan Village.
In the 1990s, the number of opera troupes was up to 8, five of which were organized by the five brothers of the Mei Shuangquan (梅双全) family.
As for the publicity and demonstration, Zhenyuan Village has changed the village cultural hall into Wuju Opera Culture Demonstration Hall.
