Hangzhou’s "Sydney Opera House" Makes Its Debut

Hangzhou Yuhang Grand Theater, which opened its doors on February 15, 2019, is the largest, most functional and best-equipped large-scale public welfare cultural building in Yuhang District of Hangzhou. It was designed by Henning Larsen Architects, Denmark. Its unique ice crack shape and inclined roof make the Grand Theater very stylish. The Grand Theater consists of 1200 grand theaters, and 500 small theaters and exhibition centers. It covers an area of 83,000 square meters, about half the size of the National Center for the Performance Arts.

As a new option for the cultural life of the citizens, the Hangzhou Yuhang Grand Theater will not only carry out the public benefit brand performances such as "Opening the Art Gate" and "Citizen Concert", but also aims to attract more citizens to enter the theater to appreciate the charm of art by holding art exhibitions, art summer camps and art lectures.

At present, the Grand Theater is holding a photo exhibition with the name of "striving for a new era and building dreams in Yuhang", which is divided into three parts: the holographic projection exhibition area about Yuhang's reform and opening-up achievements, the three-dimensional modeling area of "the National People's Congress and the Chinese Political Consultative" keywords, the exhibition areas of the ten people's livelihood facts in 2018 and the highlight exhibition area of Town Street work.

The interior of the theater uses the color combination of white, black and gold, which shows high-end atmosphere. The theater, enhanced with the red carpet on the floor, is full of the festive atmosphere of the Spring Festival.

The walls around the theater are made of bamboo pieces of different sizes, lengths and thicknesses. Each piece of bamboo is made of finger-like bamboo striped with special technology. In addition, the floor is also made of bamboo products. Arguably, the whole theater is tightly wrapped by bamboo, which is not only environmentally friendly, but also able to absorb the echoes generated by the large space. Therefore, listening to musicals on the spot will have a very good audio-visual experience. The theater is divided into three floors, with small VIP compartments on both sides. Watching performances in these VIP compartments is of another flavor.
