Yu Pu Kou - the Inspiration for Numerous Beautiful Poems

"Early in the morning, when the sun shines, waterfowls on the sandbar get noisy. While sleeping, I heard the sound of paddling in Yu Pu Kou (渔浦口). As the sun is rising, I wake up and find that the river is so broad." In the poem "Early Morning in Yupu Lake (早发渔浦潭)" by Meng Haoran, a great poet of the Tang Dynasty, the prosperity of Yu Pu Kou is vividly depicted.

Yupu Park

Yupu Park (渔浦公园) is located in Yupu ancient ferry-place of Sanjiangkou, Yiqiao Town (义桥镇). It is a small square park with beautiful scenery and it is a park with stories.

In 2014, Yiqiao Town set up a small square park in Yupu ancient ferry-place, erected a white marble tablet inscribed with two big Chinese characters - Yupu (渔浦). Next to the two characters was lined with "义桥渔浦是浙东唐诗之路重要源头 (Yupu in Yiqiao Town is an important source of Tang Poetry in East Zhejiang Province)" by Fu Xuancong, the former chairman of the Tang Dynasty Literature Research Association of China and professor of Tsinghua University, which established the cultural landmark status of Yupu.

In 2019, to further transform the landmark feature of Yupu Park, the town government has invested more than 1 million yuan to expand the construction project of Yupu Park to build a poetic forest. With the goal of being natural and primitive, through building forest roads, plank roads and greenbelts, improving the landscape around Yupu and building the Sanjian Wetland Poetic Forest around Yupu Park, we try to build the park into a new leisure and cultural landmark of Yiqiao Town.

Sunset in Yupu

Come to Yupu Park and look into the distance, and you will have a panoramic view of Qianjiang fifth bridge, small reclaimed land and shoals.

In the evening, standing at Yupu Park, you can see from afar the big and round setting sun over the broad river. The red color sets off the river with a different brilliance.

Throughout the ages, on warm spring and summer nights, fishing boats gather at the riverside. Boat lights and stars in the sky enhance each other. The night view has always been appreciated.

Source of Tang Poetry in Eastern Zhejiang

Standing in the Yupu Park where three rivers converge, thoughts throng mind. There used to be busy merchant ships and tradesmen.

It is never lack of inclusiveness and a sense of enthusiasm. 1500 years ago, Yupu was a prosperous commercial port. Since the Song Dynasty, Yupu has been the only dock on Fuchun River waterway from Qiantang River. Merchants and tourists often stayed in Yupu, which made it developed into a large commercial port and town. Yupu has become a live water terminal with a prosperous business and a prosperous market. It is also a major town for taxation and salt management.

The discovery of Heng Zhu Tang Niu Dai (横筑塘牛埭), an ancient site of more than 1500 years old, is one of the pieces of evidence of the flourishing ancient commercial port.

The most amazing charm of Yupu Park is not the beautiful scenery, but it being the inspiration for many beautiful poems by famous poets. Over the past 1000 years, from the Southern Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, there were more than 240 ancient poems describing the place. It is reported that "Yiqiao Town Records" alone contains 143 poems.

Today's Yupu Park is becoming a pilgrimage place for poets from all over the country to memorize poets of the Tang Dynasty. Poets and scholars from all over the country came to Yupu Park and wrote many poems about Yupu.
