Tune into the Lyrical Guqin
On February 18, Taiyin Guqin Club, a renowned Guqin Club in China moved its headquarters. Famed for holding a host of grand Guqin culture activities such as the “National Young and Middle-aged Guqin Musicians’ Concert” and the “China National West Lake Guqin Assembly”, the club, now situated in Fengqi Road, Hangzhou, covers a floor space of nearly 1000 sq m which makes it one of the largest Guqin clubs in China.

Guqin (Chinese Zither) is the leading musical instrument in China and a symbol of the Chinese nation. The musical instrument is estimated to have a history of at least three centuries and in 2005, the art of Guqin was enlisted as a world heritage.

Taiyin Guqin Club

Taiyin Guqin Club’s new headquarters is designed to represent the Guqin Culture and inside there are many rooms dedicated to seeing this through. There are rooms for teaching, learning, and construction and there is also a library, a renowned Guqin Collection and a hall of Guqin and Tea. The construction room enables visitors a chance to try their hands at making their very own Guqin and to witness the process of plain wood being constructed into an exquisite Guqin.

Hangzhou, as the original place of Zhejiang’s School of Guqin in the Southern Song Dynasty, has many advantages for the development of the Guqin. It is hoped that the Taiyin Guqin Club, located on the banks of the West Lake of Hangzhou, can become an arena where Guqin masters from both China and abroad can display their skills and from where people can tune into the lyrical charms of this much loved musical instrument.
