Brief of Qianjiang (Qiantang River) Tidal Bore Watching Resort
Qianjiang Tidal Bore Watching Resort is a place built for residents and tourists alike to view the splendid tidal bore of Qiantang River – the largest of its kind in the world. Every autumn, millions of people gather in the resort to witness this natural wonder, for which, an international festival has been established – China International Qiantang River Tidal Bore Watching Festival to offer visitors an extraordinary tidal bore viewing experience. Till now, the festival has been held consecutively twelve times.
The splendor of the tide is universally acknowledged. As early as Song Dynasty, the great poet Su Shi was astonished by the spectacular view and wrote a poem “Tidal Bore Watching” to compliment the view. In recent years, the international geographical field has cited the tidal bore of Qiantang River, together with that of Amazon River and the Ganges in South Asia, as “Top Three Tidal Bores in the World”.
Seeing from a distance, the tidal bore appears as a white line between the sky and water surface. As the tidal bore gets closer, it is getting larger with louder rumble. Soon, the tide grows rapidly across the surface, and the sound produced is like hundreds of horses stampeding ahead. Such majestic scene is best viewed at Qianjiang Tidal Bore Watching Resort.
