Perched off the Grand Canal, Yunhe Tiandi (Canal World运河天地) is a trendy place to indulge in an eclectic mix of old and new, tradition and modernity. Three rows of old warehouses are restored and refurbished into stylish dining, recreation and shopping complexes.
Though 2 hours are enough to visit the shops, budget-friendly cinema, tasteful restaurants, photography studios, the amazing vibe and activities will make you linger longer than expected.
Yunhe Tiandi has something for everyone. It pleases all tastes and budgets. Once in, you can sample the taste of Hangzhou by picking a top-rated Chinese restaurant, watch a movie, take wedding photos, visit a bar, or just stroll along the Grand Canal to watch the passing barges and royal cruises.
When night fall, Yunhe Tiandi comes alive with dinners, bar-goers and collective dancers (with the majority of them belong to middle-aged to seniors). During summer, outdoor dining area is packed with gourmets. Street food and snacks and beers are tentatively served. One of my favorite restaurants here is New Discovery(新发现餐厅). This two-storey Chinese restaurant is elegantly decorated. The toothsome, light-flavored and exquisite delicacies keep it overcrowded during weekends. Do remember come early (make it at 17:00pm) or book online earlier.
Bigao Cinema(比高电影院), a five-star cinema opened by Zhou Xingchi, the Godfather of China’s comedy films, offers budget –friendly tickets. Bring your friends or family, you are bound to have a memorable time here.
