Long Bridge Park is one of the best place to view “Leifeng Pagoda in Evening Glow” — one of “Top Ten Views of West Lake”.
Brief of Long Bridge Park
Long Bridge Park is located in the southeast corner of West Lake, right beside Long Bridge. Now, in the park are extensively planted osmanthus trees which earned it the title “the park of the City Flower” (Osmanthus is the city flower of Hangzhou). The park faces the famous Leifeng Pagoda across West Lake, and it’s one of the best place to view “Leifeng Pagoda in Evening Glow” — one of “Top Ten Views of West Lake”.
There are three unusualnesses of West Lake, that is, the Broken Bridge isn’t broken, the Long Bridge isn’t long and the Solitary Hill isn’t solitary. Among all the bridges in the West Lake Scenic Area, this so-called Long Bridge was the shortest. It’s shorter than 3 meters. The reason why it’s named the Long Bridge was because of the beautiful love story between Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai (Butterfly Lovers). Zhu Yingtai, disguising as a boy, went to school and met Liang Shanbo — a boy. She established deep friendship with Liang Shanbo who had no idea of her gender. When Zhu Yingtai was called home by her father, Liang Shanbo sent her off. Liang Shanbo saw Zhu Yingtain to one end of the bridge and Zhu saw Liang to the other end. They kept on doing so until they covered as long as 9 kilometers. So this shortest bridge became endlessly long.
