Brief of Ge Hill
Named after the important figure in Taoism — Ge Hong, Ge Hill is the place where Baopu Temple —Top Three Taoist Temples Around West Lake is located. At an altitude of 365 meters, it s located in the west of the Precious Stone Hill (宝石山).
It s said that during the Eastern Jin Dynasty (265–420), Ge Hong tried to make an elixir of life on the hill. For this purpose, he erected a terrace and sank a well as his workshop which still can be seen on the hill. In addition, Ge Hill is an ideal place to enjoy the view of the Qiantang River stretching to the East China Sea. At the highest point of Ge Hill stands the Sunrise Terrace (初阳台) with a stone pavilion. The stone pavilion is a perfect place to enjoy the sunrise (that s why it s called Sunrise Terrace). The view is one of “Top Ten Views of Qiantang River”.
